Long Covid: Understanding Immune, Symptom, and Treatment Experiences Nationwide (LISTEN Study)

  • Study HIC#:2000032207
  • Last Updated:02/02/2024

LISTEN stands for Listen to Immune, Symptom and Treatment Experiences Now.

The purpose of this study is to understand Long Covid symptoms and corresponding immune responses by collecting information about symptoms and medical history from participants who are members of a patient community, and by collecting blood and saliva samples from some participants.

We are recruiting from the Hugo Health Kindred COVID-19 Community, which is an online patient community which enables people to connect with others, gain agency over their health data and consent to have their data be shared with researchers.

Trial Purpose and Description

People who join the LISTEN study are consenting to have the health data and surveys that they generated on the Kindred community shared with LISTEN researchers. The LISTEN researchers will analyze the data for insights about the health of people in the study, including those with long COVID and those with syndromes after vaccination. We will characterize demographic, clinical, social, and environmental factors associated with health status. We will share some results back with participants, when analysis is completed. We will also treat participants with respect, listen to their suggestions about the study, and engage them in interpreting and disseminating results.

We will invite some participants to give blood and saliva samples as part of this study. A trained phlebotomist from ExamOne (a part of Quest labs) will come to collect the samples at a time that people schedule using the ExamOne online portal. They can come to people’s homes or meet them at a Quest center. We will help people make appointments.
