Uterine Artery Embolization, Uterine Fibroid Embolization
Definition
Uterine artery embolization (UAE) or uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive medical treatment used to block the blood supply to uterine fibroids, causing them to shrink and eventually die. This procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist who uses a catheter to deliver small particles into the uterine arteries, which clog up the vessels, cutting off the blood flow to the fibroids.
