Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN)
Definition
Persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) is a serious medical condition in which a newborn's circulatory system does not adapt properly to life outside the womb, resulting in high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries and reduced oxygen levels in the blood. This can lead to difficulty breathing, organ damage, and potentially life-threatening complications.
