Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome

Definition

Delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS) is a circadian rhythm sleep disorder characterized by a persistent and chronic delay in the timing of sleep onset and wakefulness, resulting in difficulty falling asleep at the desired bedtime and difficulty waking up at the desired time. This misalignment between the individual's sleep pattern and societal norms can lead to significant impairment in social, occupational, and academic functioning.
