Biography

Terri Huynh, MD, is a gynecologic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive procedures and is passionate about educating her patients.

Dr. Huynh says she knew she wanted to go into medicine since she was in kindergarten. “I homed in on women’s health because I enjoy advocating for women and I get to take care of women from the their first period through menopause,” she says.

She treats fibroids, adenomyosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, and performs hysterectomy, utilizing her skills in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery.

“Gynecologists used to do a lot of open surgeries, but now with minimally invasive techniques and robotic surgery, patients’ outcomes have improved in terms of less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster recoveries,” Dr. Huynh explains. “We also have improved medical treatments where people don’t necessarily need surgery.”

Many patients come to her for a second opinion or if they have been dealing with symptoms of heavy bleeding or pelvic pain for a while, Dr. Huynh says. “My goal is to help educate patients. I want to make sure women have the time to learn about what is happening to their body and to feel empowered,” she says.

Dr. Huynh favors shared decision making. “I want to make sure women know they have a choice and we can have a conversation about the reasonable options, the associated risks, and possible outcomes,” she adds.

Much of a patient visit entails counseling and hearing their story. “Most of the time in gynecologic surgery we do not need to take action right away. Instead, I can present options and give a woman time to think about what is best,” she says.

Dr. Huynh is a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
