Kathleen Stoessel, MD
Biography
Kathleen Stoessel, MD, is an ophthalmologist who specializes in treating patients with retinopathy, or diseases of the retina.
Dr. Stoessel is also the director of the Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) program at Yale New Haven Hospital, which evaluates and treats premature infants with retinal problems to lower the risk of vision loss. She researches the effectiveness of laser treatments for ROP.
She also screens the eyes of infants and children who have head trauma or experienced battered baby syndrome. In addition, Dr. Stoessel treats patients with macular degeneration (a condition that can blur vision) and other retinal disorders.
Dr. Stoessel received the 2022 Yale Medicine Distinguished Clinician Award. She is an associate professor of ophthalmology and visual science at Yale School of Medicine.
