Biography

Henry Cabin, MD, is an expert in interventional cardiology who has served in numerous leadership roles at Yale. He sees general cardiology patients for conditions such as coronary artery disease.

The best parts of his job, Dr. Cabin says, are having the opportunity to take care of incredibly sick patients quickly and watching them get better—and training future cardiologists.

Growing up, Dr. Cabin says he enjoyed science and wanted to help people. “I knew I was on a medical school trajectory as soon as I started looking at colleges, but I started off in research after that,” he says. “After my residency, I went to the National Institutes of Health for several years to study cardiac pathology.”

In the early 1980s, Dr. Cabin joined the faculty at Yale and helped start the angioplasty program.

“I’ve had the privilege of being here during some of the biggest advances in cardiac care,” Dr. Cabin says. “What has always been incredible to me about cardiology is how instantly gratifying it can be. A patient comes to the hospital with advanced disease in which an artery is closed and a heart is barely beating, but you can treat them and two days later, they are fine. I love that we can make a diagnosis, fix it, and patients get better.”

Dr. Cabin is a professor emeritus of medicine (cardiology) at Yale School of Medicine.
