Evgeny Shkolnik, MD, FACC
Biography
Evgeny Shkolnik, MD, is a cardiovascular medicine specialist who diagnoses and treats a variety of heart-related conditions. He has expertise in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, which are imaging tests that evaluate the structure and function of the heart.
“Physicians are often asked if they would choose their specialty again,” says Dr. Shkolnik. “For me, it was not a hypothetical question.” After practicing cardiology for almost 10 years in Russia, he explains that he had a chance to choose his specialty again in the United States. “The heart fascinated me from my early years of medical school, and cardiology is a unique field of medicine that allows me to build long-standing relationships with my patients,” he says. “I can examine the very small details of how the heart functions, which can make a big difference in how a patient feels.”
Dr. Shkolnik’s research interests include the use of ultrasound-enhancing agents in echocardiography for patients with stroke, coronary artery disease, and ischemic heart failure.
Dr. Shkolnik is an assistant professor of medicine at Yale University School of Medicine.
