Brian R. Smith, MD, is a specialist in laboratory medicine and hematology who cares for adults and children with conditions involving blood cells and clotting. He uses comprehensive testing to identify abnormalities and collaborates with other medical teams to personalize treatment approaches based on individual needs.

As professor of laboratory medicine, biomedical engineering, medicine, and pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Smith investigates how inflammation and blood clotting interact under normal and diseased conditions. His research also explores improving cellular therapies to address blood disorders in ways that can be tailored to each patient.

Dr. Smith received his medical training from Harvard University and completed his residency and fellowship at Brigham & Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, and Dana Farber Cancer Center. He has been honored by the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians & Scientists with the Evans Award for Outstanding Contributions to Laboratory Medicine.
