A Short-Term Longitudinal Study of the Brain Mechanisms of Childhood Irritability

We are recruiting children and adolescents ages 8 to 15 to participate in an fMRI study to help us understand why some youths are more easily frustrated and irritable than others and how this is related to their brain function. We also aim to study whether and how brain function can be used to predict later outcomes. Therefore, participants will be invited back to our lab for two follow-up visits 6 months and 12 months after the brain scan for clinical evaluation and assessment.

Trial Purpose and Description
This is an fMRI study in youth that will examine brain function and connectivity associated with irritability and changes in irritability over time
Eligibility Criteria
Children and adolescents ages 8 to 15; both gender; IQ>70; can undergo an MRI scan; no major medication condition; no psychiatric diagnoses of the following: autism, bipolar disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia
