Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

Definition

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common and highly contagious virus that causes infections in the respiratory tract, particularly affecting the lungs and airways. It is most prevalent in infants and young children but can also affect adults, especially those with weakened immune systems or chronic lung conditions. RSV typically causes mild cold-like symptoms but can lead to more severe respiratory illnesses such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia.
