A lumbar sympathetic nerve block is a medical procedure that involves the injection of a local anesthetic and/or steroid medication into the lumbar sympathetic chain, a group of nerves located in the lower back. This procedure is performed to diagnose or treat pain originating from the sympathetic nervous system, such as complex regional pain syndrome (reflex sympathetic dystrophy) or peripheral vascular disease.
