Kidney Failure, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

Definition

End-stage renal disease (ESRD), also known as kidney failure, is a severe medical condition characterized by the progressive loss of kidney function, leading to the inability of the kidneys to filter waste, excess fluids, and electrolytes from the blood. This results in a dangerous accumulation of toxins in the body, which can be life-threatening if not treated with dialysis or a kidney transplant.
