Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty
Definition
Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). It involves the insertion of a catheter with a small balloon at its tip into the pulmonary arteries. The balloon is then inflated to widen the narrowed or blocked blood vessels, improving blood flow and reducing shortness of breath.
