Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD)
Definition
Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous cysts in the kidneys, leading to progressive kidney damage and potential kidney failure. The cysts can also affect other organs, such as the liver. ADPKD is caused by mutations in the PKD1 or PKD2 genes and is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner.
