An artificial heart is a mechanical device that is implanted into the body to replace the lower chambers (ventricles) of the heart that pump blood and maintain circulation. The artificial heart provides a temporary or long-term solution for patients with severe heart failure or end-stage heart disease until a heart transplant is available.
