Abdominal sacrocolpopexy is a surgical procedure performed to correct pelvic organ prolapse, specifically vaginal vault prolapse, when the pelvic muscles weaken and overstretch allowing the top of the vagina to drop down the vaginal canal. During the procedure, a piece of mesh is placed over the top of the vagina and attached to the sacrum to provide support to the pelvic organs and help restore their normal position.
